Description

If you are planning on become a beekeeper or just interested in finding out more about bees and beekeeping then this course is for you.

Come along to Edendale Farm to one of our beginners courses and get to understand what beekeeping is all about.

In the beginning beekeeping workshop you can expect to learn everything from the inner workings of a bee hive to the amazing properties of raw honey; how to maintain a healthy hive; to the wonders of swarms and how to keep them in check. Weather permitting we'll also open a hive and have a hands-on demonstration working with hives in the Edendale apiary.

The class is limited to 15 people, and we will start the day with a small amount of practical discussion in the classroom and then followed by a hands on day opening and inspecting the hives. If you have a Flow hive we can certainly help with all your questions!

The Class is suitable for adults and teenagers who are interested to get started or learn about bees.

What should I wear/bring ? Most of our classes take place outdoors so you’ll need clothing suitable for the weather on the day.  Even if it is very hot you will need long pants, long sleeves and closed shoes for the practical part of the day.  We supply all beekeeping suits.  You’ll also need gardening gloves or similar, sunscreen and a bottle of water.

Is there parking available? Yes there is plenty of parking available at Edendale. full class details will be emailed a week before the date

Do I need to bring lunch? Yes we do provide coffee and tea but please bring a packed lunch or you may be able to buy some from the nearby cafe

How old do you need to be to do the course? We usually suggest an age of 13 and above for the adult courses but feel free to contact me if you have a special request

In keeping with the "practical' title this is indeed a very useful course. It enabled us to have the insight to enthuse us to begin beekeeping and the confidence that it was doable. Albeit in the latter this is a significant and no doubt very rewarding undertaking. Well done to Benedict and Ashton the two very knowledgeable instructors. Thoroughly enjoyable day. Paul

Wonderful day at the delightful Edendale Farm. The day was packed full of information, and Benedict was very happy to answer everyone's questions. There is so much to learn about the bees, and this was a wonderful introduction. I really enjoyed the practical part, of seeing the hives in action, and seeing how to work the bees. A great day, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks indeed.
